Caitlin Canty September Letter
I'm moving my monthly newsletter to Substack where I'll try to keep a heartbeat going of new songs and give a heads up on where I'll be pointing my minivan next to play those songs for you.
Quiet Flame hits the road
I’m trying to get it all done around this old house before the snow flies. I’ve stained the deck, caulked and primed the seams around new windows, and I’m about to stack a pile of suspiciously green firewood that just landed in my driveway. If you’ve known me as a Nashvillian, this might sound a bit off. Why would I feel the electric urge to race around before winter? Nashville’s winter starts and ends in January. Well we recently moved up to the mountains of my home state of Vermont. I can feel the change in the air and the leaves and the angle of light warning me to get this place ready for a cozy hibernation. But before I hunker down, I’ve got a new record to chase around!
If you’re wondering what these record release shows might be like, here’s a flattering gig review from The Observer and a deep dive into the record with some epitaph-worthy quotes from the hero-friends who played on this record, published by The Bluegrass Situation.
Northeast tour in October, West in November
Will Seeders and I load as many instruments as we can into the van next week for shows up and down the east coast from NH to VA in October. Tickets are moving fast, join us won’t you?
I’m thrilled that Joachim Cooder will be opening my November shows from WA to CA and joining my band on drums! Find us in Bellingham, Seattle, Portland, Berkeley and Los Angeles for this very special trio record release tour with Will Seeders and Joachim Cooder. TOUR
Quiet Flame
I released a new record this summer, Quiet Flame. Many of you have already listened or bought a copy, and I thank you for it! I have just loved reading love notes about the songs that hit home with you. After so long living with these songs rattling around only my heart and only in my home, I feel an explosion of joy knowing some of these songs are now living with you.
If you’re looking for Quiet Flame, you can get your physical CDs or LPs (and Tees and Posters and Bandanas) from my store, shipped straight from my wonderful mom. Or you can stream it at the usual haunts. I’ve also made some live videos with the brilliant band who played on this record. It seems fitting to release this new video today from my new home in my old home state, played as a duo with Quiet Flame producer Chris Eldridge. Here’s “Come by the Highway Home.”
Hope to see you out there!

Greetings Caitlin! With apologies for being a bit of a semi-luddite and taking time away from wood piles and weather stripping (OMG… fall!), can I ask you to shine a little light on this Substack thing, which is new to me? Is what's here also over on Patreon or are Patreon and Substack mutually exclusive in terms of what's where? Or… Is Substack simply replacing Patreon? Most importantly of all, what's the best way to help you? I am a Patreon subscriber. Should I be a Substack subscriber instead? Or as well? Does that benefit you, too? Benefit you more? Maybe I just need more coffee this morning, but I'm confused about how to best to keep up with what's happening in Cantyland and offer my support. This music thing… it's complicated these days! Any advice? See you Saturday in Lincoln!
I am happily subscribing to your newsletter Caitlin. Cheers B!
